The latest Renault Megane was introduced in 2002, it
has a unique shape which you either love or hate. The
Megane comes as a 3 & 5 door hatchback, cabriolet
and saloon.
The controls are easy to use, although the six speed
gearbox can be tricky to handle. The keyless start gives
the car a bit of character and individuality. The drivers
seat is elevated, giving a good visability of the road
ahead. The Megane is reasonably spacious in the front,
with satisfactory head and legroom, however in the back,
legroom is limited, children will be fine but adults
and teenagers may find it cramped.
All Renault Megane's come well equipped, with Air-conditioning
and CD player as standard.
The handling of the car is good and can handle the typical
English roads although it can become slightly unstable
on the more bumpy surfaces.
Practicality isn't the Megane's strongest point, it
has surprisingly little boot space, however it can be
extended by folding down the rear seats.
Reliability
on the older models isn't what you would expect from
a Renault, complaints were endless, however the newer
versions seem to be of a higher quality and they amount
of dissatisfaction has decreased.
Although it may not be the most reliable car, the safety
is excellent, the 3 door Megane is fitted with 8 airbags
and the 5 door has 10. The keyless entry makes the security
superb, along with the alarm and immobiliser.
The
Renault Megane comes in 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.9 and 2 litre
engines. The petrol models are reasonable and get you
from A to B but are nothing special, however the Diesel
1.9 has a much better performance if it's efficiency
you want.
